‘Crazy Rich Filipino’ Couple Gets Married with Boyce Avenue Singing at their Wedding

Anyone who has seen the film adaptation of the book ‘Crazy Rich Asian’ will agree that the lifestyle of the movie characters is, indeed, extravagant. The movie reveals the luxurious and indulgence of the crazy, rich Asian life. However, there is one scene in the movie that captured this high-rolling lifestyle and this is what the was called in the movie as ‘The Wedding of the Year’.

The entire movie revolves around the wedding of the characters, Colin and Araminta, so it is just right that it will be the grandest of them all.

The said wedding is an impressive mix of nature and architecture. It took place inside an ancient chapel with a miniature botanical garden. Without any flashy decorations, the wedding scene exudes sophistication with its earthy and lush theme. The wedding guests in the movie sit in green velvet benches amongst the grasses.

As Araminta, the bride, walks down the aisle, water floods ahead of her, making her walk on water. As she makes her entrance, the guests held a handcrafter stick with a butterfly or firefly at the end that lights up, highlighting such a breathtaking moment in the movie.

The wedding is supposed to cost $40 million. Sounds like a dream wedding, right?

If you think that this kind of wedding only happens in the movies, you are in for a big surprise. A real-life wedding of such kind recently took place between two crazy, wealthy Asians, or two crazy, rich Filipinos, to be specific.

The wedding of singer and beauty queen Shirley Vy and businessman Kevin Wong looks like a real-life version of Colin and Araminta.

The crazy, opulent wedding was held at the National Shrine of Saint Jude in Manila, with wall-to-wall fresh flowers adorning the walls, reminiscent of the same outdoor-indoor vibe of the wedding scene in the movie.

The Bride

The radiant bride, who is also a former Miss Chinatown titleholder, walked down the aisle wearing a gown custom-made by Ellie Saab. It is estimated to be at the price range of between $7,500 to $27,000. Her bridesmaids, on the other hand, were dressed by Elizabeth Hallie Designs.

The Reception

The reception, which by no means less fancy than the ceremony, followed suit. The couple set the bar of extravagance higher with the Grand Ballroom of the Solaire Resort and Casino serving as the venue of the reception.

Stepping inside the ballroom, which was converted to a Greek-inspired garden with dozens and dozens of pastel-hued flowers. The guests were treated to the sight of an 11-foot cake, and a 5-meter by 29-meter giant LED screen with 580 panels.

The Entertainment

Making the reception more dream-like, the couple flew in the US band, Boyce Avenue, to provide the entertainment. The group, who took a break from their US tour to perform at the wedding, serenaded the couple and their guests with songs such as ‘Unchained Melody’ and ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’ among others.

Shirley, who is a singer herself, also performed during the reception and dedicated her song to husband, Kevin.

Furthermore, the guests also enjoyed the music provided by the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra.

Aside from being a singer and beauty titlist, the bride is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Foodeology, Inc., the Philippine franchise holder of the South Korean dessert café, Kiss the Tiramisu. Kevin, on the other hand, is the general manager of Oriental Group, an online and land-based gaming operator licensed by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation.
