India’s Version of a Royal Wedding Features Maroon 5 and a Carnival

Three days of a wedding celebration is probably not enough for this couple from India who recently got married last March 9-11, 2019.

The couple who got married is Akash Ambani, the 27-year-old son of Mukesh Ambani, Asia’s richest man, and Shloka Mehta, the daughter of diamond mogul Rusell Mehta. Being the darlings of the Indian high society, their wedding is one of the country’s highly-anticipated social events, almost considered as a royal wedding.

A pre-wedding event called dandiya raas kicked off the festivities. This event called for a musical night with much dancing and was held at the Ambani’s 27-story residence in Antilia, Mumbai.

From February 24 to 25, the couple, together with some of their friends flew to a luxury ski resort town of St. Moritz in Switzerland. They enjoyed a mini-concert with live performances of Chris Martin and The Chainsmokers.

If that is not enough, the venue is equipped with carnival rides which are meant to entertain the guests. The couple’s arrived at the event riding a white horse-driven carriage, fairy tale style.

However, the real festivities began on March 9, the ceremony day.

The bride did not just walk down the aisle but marched through a surreal pathway that simulated a brightly-colored hill.

The couple exchanged vows underneath a giant floral chandelier.

A post-wedding party was held on the evening of March 10 with Maroon 5 gracing the night.

The reception, on the other hand, was held on March 11.

The couple reportedly invited over 850 guests to their Winter Wonderland themed-party which included a diverse mix of politicians, business tycoons, and the biggest names in Bollywood.

Some of the notable guests include former United Nations Secretary Ban Ki-moon and former Prime Minister of the United Kingdon Tony Blair.

The couple also invited Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Microsoft Chief Satya Nadella.
