Marriage is a beautiful thing. Sadly, it is also one of the main causes of pain and heartaches to many people. And while marriage is one of the most amazing things that could happen to a person’s life, it can also be the most painful thing!
But did you know that overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) are among those with the highest rates of marriage problems?
Of course, they often have a bigger salary compared if they were working in the Philippines, but these here are the top 5 reasons why you should not marry an OFW…
Jealousy and social problems
Jealousy is one of the most common reasons why couples break up – and that seems to be highlighted in OFWs, mostly because of the long distance between the couples. “Innocent” photos or posts on social media could lead to jealousy. This might mean that either of the couple would prevent the other from socializing, in fear that the other might find another one in their time apart.
Loneliness and marital woes
Due to the time differences and the fact that they are physically away from each other, a lot of couples end up feeling lonely. Sadly, many find a new love to fill the loneliness they are feeling. While it starts with texting or exchanging private messages, this often escalates to something more, leading to marital woes.
Problems with raising the kids
Aside from troubles as a couple, there’s this problem about raising the kids. Often, kids of OFWs don’t feel close to their parents, leading to issues as they grow up. If you can’t handle that kind of problem, better stay away from an OFW.
Mismanagement at home
A lot of OFWs go abroad to give their families a better life; sadly, many end up in deeper debt because of financial mismanagement. Not only does the spouse left at home find a new love, the family might even become financially troubled as well because the money is not spent well.
Many families also upgrade their lifestyle; sadly, the job might not be assured and the OFW ends up losing the job or worse.
Risk of encountering more troubles than happiness
There is no guarantee that the job will always be there; in fact, a lot of OFWs don’t retire as OFWs because their contract might not be renewed anymore due to a number of issues, including their age!
Moreover, there are also lots of risks of the OFWs encountering troubles abroad; such as not getting their salaries, finding bad employers, and could even lose their jobs or their lives due to various reasons. A lot of OFWs also get lost for unexplained reasons, never to return to their families again…
While we’re not trying to be naysayers here, these are just some of the most common reasons why you shouldn’t marry an OFW. Of course, if you’re a strong person who could handle all these issues, then go ahead – but be prepared to be a strong, understanding spouse who won’t leave at the first sign of trouble!
Good luck…
