Marrying Amid Pandemic: Couple Invites Wedding Guests Using Medical Masks

Marrying at the time of pandemic will never be as normal as it was before, that’s why couples have become more creative in preparing for the “big day”; putting in consideration, as well, the risk of containing the dreaded virus.

In a private Facebook group, a social media user uploaded a photo of an extraordinary invitation that fits perfectly with the current situation brought by the pandemic, inviting their guests to attend the wedding using medical masks.

Printed on the unique invitation are the details of the upcoming wedding and a simple icon of marrying couple. The masks are rolled up and tied with a blue and gold ribbon.

Protection From Medical Masks

According to Mayo Clinic, face masks combined with other preventive measures–including frequent hand-washing and social distancing–truly help slow the spread of the virus.

“Also called a medical mask, a surgical mask is a loose-fitting disposable mask that protects the wearer’s nose and mouth from contact with droplets, splashes and sprays that may contain germs. A surgical mask also filters out large particles in the air. Surgical masks may protect others by reducing exposure to the saliva and respiratory secretions of the mask wearer,” it disclosed.

Meanwhile, noting the challenge of getting used to wearing a face mask, the Mayo Clinic noted some tips that one may follow during the adjustment period.

  • Start slow. Wear your mask at home for a short time, such as while watching television. Then wear it during a short walk. Slowly increase the time until you feel more comfortable.
  • Find your fit. If your mask isn’t comfortable or is too difficult to breathe through, consider other options. Masks come in a variety of styles and sizes.
  • Tie one on. Instead of a face mask, try a scarf or bandanna to cover your nose and mouth.

“If these tips don’t help or you have concerns about wearing a mask, talk with your doctor about how to protect yourself and others during the pandemic,” it was noted.
