In a video that took the internet by storm and made millions of viewers cry, a pair of Japanese newlyweds honored their parents with a tear-jerking skit at the wedding reception.

It started with a little boy running around the reception hall, carrying a net and chasing some imaginary beetles. The kid introduced himself as Shota, the miniature version of the groom. He told of how chasing beetles had always been one of his fondest summer memories with his dad. Though he ended his part with a sad note that he is always failing…

Next arrived a young girl, introducing herself as the bride’s miniature version. As Ayaka, the little girl praised her mom for cooking the best dumplings. Then, she shared how her dad worked in the city by himself. Every Sunday, he goes back to Osaka – that’s why she hates Sundays because that meant being away from her dad the next few days…

The skit continued to narrate the story of the young couple as they went through a rough adolescence and eventually to adulthood. Throughout their lives, the young couple had realizations of their parents’ love and support.

Honoring Parents in the Wedding

Aside from the traditional walk down the aisle with parents, the bride and groom can also do extra activities to honor their parents during the wedding. Usually during the reception, the bride gets to dance with her father.
