Seaman’s “Pinoy Henyo” Wedding Proposal Goes Viral

When the time is right for a guy to propose to his girlfriend, a lot want to make the moment more memorable by doing something elaborate. While it is alright, of course, to simply pop the question, there’s still something about a beautiful setting and a fun-filled moment that makes the event sweeter.

Just like the proposal done by 25-year-old seaman, Hugh Nathaniel Mendoza, who proposed to his girlfriend, 25-year-old Kisha Tiffany Lagahid, using the “Pinoy Henyo” game.

While I was still on board (working abroad), I was already thinking of ways on how to propose to her (Lagahid). I thought of doing a music video inspired by the song Rude, but then I realized that we can’t do some scenes because of restrictions with the locations,” the young man shared.

According to Cebu Daily News, Mendoza arrived in Cebu on September 5, but still could not find a way to best propose to his girlfriend in the manner he planned out while he was at sea.

Then, with the help of his friends, he finally had the best idea on how to propose to Lagahid.

While they were island hopping with other friends, the guys “decided” on having a game of Pinoy Henyo between Mendoza and Lagahid. With the two being a couple for 6 years, Lagahid had no idea that the guys were up to something.

Someone put a handkerchief around Lagahid as blindfold while one held a paper over Lagahid’s head. The bond paper read, “Will you marry me?”

As they prepared the couple for the Pinoy Henyo game, the friends cheered, but Lagahid could never guess what’s written on the paper. When the time was up, Mendoza ran towards the back of his girlfriend’s chair.

She was surprised to see him gone but would soon cry after seeing him holding out the opened box with the ring inside when she turned around.

What is Pinoy Henyo?

Pinoy Henyo (Filipino genius) is a game popularized by noontime show “Eat Bulaga!” In the game, one person will try to guess the word/s while the other will try to help out by answering “yes”, “no”, or “puede” (possible) to clues the other one asks.

In the game, the first pair to guess the word, wins.
