Wedding in the time of coronavirus?

On Reddit, the wedding photo of couple Sharmin Asha and Nazmul Ahmed together with their closests went viral, amazing a lot of users of the unique ceremony that was held in the popular video game Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
“My fiance planned it out with our best friends,” Asha, or user ashmush, wrote in the caption of the screenshot. “I’m graduating from medical school and not getting a graduation, and our wedding was cancelled. I was feeling pretty down about missing out on my milestones. This made me so happy, I don’t even have the words to describe how much it meant to me.”
According to Inverse, the couple began dating in April 2016 and got engaged in June 2016 in Costa Rica when Ahmed popped the question in a butterfly garden.
The wedding was bound to take place last April 12, 2020 at a hip Brooklyn venue with a “gorgeous atrium”; where some 100 friends and family were supposed to attend. But then, COVID-19 happened.
Good thing, they both play the aforementioned video game; which allowed their wedding to “push through” on a different date and venue, yet as solemn as they wanted it to be.
“I wanted it to look like those really cute beach weddings you see at the end of rom coms,” Ahmed said.
“We saw Animal Crossing had a similar vibe as a farming/home life simulator that we could play together,” Ahmed shared, adding that they spent the first weekend after the game was released together playing the game, going on little dates and visiting each others’ islands inside the game.
Eventually, he thought of a special “wedding ceremony” that will surely make his beloved, who is really fond of playing the game, happy.
“I wanted to show her even though we can’t meet physically as a group, we still have a ton of friends and family that love and support us,” expressed. “I thought doing an event through Animal Crossing could be a fun way of showing that.”
